Milk....jam? Yeah, I know, I thought the same thing when I first heard of it. It's not jam. It originates from France, where they call it "confiture de lait", which literally translates to milk jam. But, once again, it's not jam.

This bread really brought me back to one of my favourite places in the world, Tuscany. I've been there twice now and I'm in love. If you've followed me for a while, you may have read the post on Italy that I did after my trip there last summer. Smelling this bread as it came out of the oven conjured up images from that trip and the culture that I really envy.

There are lots of different ways to make and maintain your own sourdough starter. Some people swear by using pineapple juice, some people only use rye flour, the list goes on. As long as you have flour, water, and wild yeast, you've got yourself a starter.
